SCHOOL START TIME UPDATE
The San Diego Unified School Board approved the Healthy Start Time mandate that will require all high schools to start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. starting in the 2020-21 school year. Some high schools may pilot a healthy start time in the 2019-2020 school year.
On Jan. 17, 2019, La Jolla High School's SGT voted to request to join the SDUSD Healthy Start Time pilot program in 2019-2020 school year with an 8:30 a.m. start time. The Healthy Start Time mandate did not include middle schools, however, since Muirlands Middle School and La Jolla High School share teachers and athletic fields, the Muirlands SGT also voted on Jan. 31, 2019 to pilot the Healthy Start Time in 2019. Both schools have submitted their proposals to SDUSD and they are currently being reviewed by the district.
